Odessa. Rebirth.
On the canvas, I depicted the destroyed altar of the Odessa Transfiguration Cathedral and Jesus rising into the heavens.

This event occurred on July 23, 2023, and deeply shook me. The next day, under the impression of what I saw, I began painting this picture and finished it on August 9, 2023.

In this painting, I embedded multiple meanings, but I only felt sadness, not anger or hatred.

I will share some of them with you.

Everything in this world has a beginning and an end, continuation and development, and is capable of transformation.

For me, transformation is a process of change, renewal, and rebirth.

The destroyed altar and cathedral symbolize the end and decline. However, Jesus rising into the heavens is a symbol of hope for rebirth and a new beginning. Even after destruction and loss, there is the possibility of transformation and rebirth.

Transformation is an inner process of metamorphosis. Jesus is a symbol of spiritual rebirth for humans. Through faith and overcoming difficulties, a person can experience their own transformation, getting rid of old thought patterns and habits and discovering new horizons.

Moreover, transformation is a cyclical process. Everything in this world is subject to change and development. The old gives way to the new. And Jesus symbolizes the new phase of this cycle, where something new arises from the ruins of the old.

Everything in this world has its time and place, and through transformation, one can find new opportunities and meaning in life.

Life, death, resurrection – transformation.

P.S. Once before, the cathedral was completely destroyed (1936), but from 1999 to 2010, it was fully reconstructed.
